I just bought one off a buddy at work. Nice gun huh? I always looked at the SIR catalog as a child and wanted one of these so I am really happy.
Just started sighting it in at the range and hope it will help me fill my freezer this winter.

HA

I did the same thing with a Canadian Tire catalogue when I was a kid. And yes, I own one now too.

the original savage was built in 1899, like the win 1894 the 18 was dropped, hence savage mod.99. the original was discontinued in 1922. depending on which model, and there were many, values range from $1000.00 for the original in excellent condition ,with the rotary magazine down to the mod.99E for $190.00. this is from the gun digest book of gun values.the last model made was the 99c. it ran from 1965 to 1998 . book value, good $370.00, very good $430.00 excellent $530.00. this rifle had a detachable clip which replaced the rotary magazine

Shoot the gun last week with my 308 precision reload.
Very pleased,I shoot 2x5 shots groups...1 1/4" @ 100M.:D
Is those groups are usual with a 99?

Thanks for reply;)

that's pretty decent with anything. the mod.99 is a good rifle and was always known for accuracy , at least in MHO. enjoy it to the max.!!

What grain bullet are you using?

That is better than I am getting with my 99c A series in 308
so far I am getting a 3 inch group at 100 m with various factory ammo. It seems to like 150 grain better than 180 grain. I will try again today with some 165 gr Remington Core lokt.

DOM late 70's probably 1979. The most common caliber in 99C. If it has the fancy stock it could be a CD (clip delux). Not much for a collector, but it is a good honest hunting rifle.

When people get into disgusing the "ALLROUND" rifle they usually ignore the "rifle" and just talk about cartridges.

Here in Alberta a savage 99 in 308 is a pretty great "ALLROUND" rifle. For fast handling and extra shots in close range bush hunting it is a good tool. But it has the potential to make good accurate shots at resonabley "long" range when hunting open country. From moose to pronghorn it will get the job done.

I have a couple 99s in .300 savage.

The only rifle I have that may be a little better "allround" rifle is my recent acquision a Win. M100 in .284 win.
