Savage 99F Leveraction

Take off the buttplate. Get a really long straight screwdriver. Loosen the screw until your buttstock comes off. Make a shim ( piece of pop can will work ) that goes on the rear of the receiver, then reinstall your stock and tighten snug up the screw. If you don't have a crack in the stock near the tang, this will prevent it from happening. I'll see if I can find a pic of what I'm talking ...

Weasel1, I'll wait for your pic.....

Dagnabbit. Can't find one and I thought I took a pic myself too. Essentially, bend a shim around the recoil lug ( where the stock screw goes into ) and still a hole in the shim so the screw will pass through. What it does is move the tang slightly away from stock so there isn't any contact, thus preventing a crack. Hopefully someone else can find a pic to you, but once you take it apart, you'll see what I mean.

I plan on doing this to mine as well. The Outsider had a sticky posted on this but it seems to have disappeared. I believe recommended shim is .020"
