Savage A22 any good?

Just a note here for the A22 (and B22) - to get a lighter trigger pull you can heat the T-spring with a lighter - red hot- and let it cool slowly. My A22 trigger is about 2#; the B22 is 1.4#. And I made a Trigger 'adjustment tool' with a 6-7" piece of hanger wire, cut a slot on the end to catch the T-spring cross-piece. The 'tool' that comes with the gun won't reach thru the trigger guard of the A22. For the B22 I drilled thru the guard to adjust w/o taking the rifle apart.

I have an A17 and it shoots as accurately at 100 yards as my CZ453 Varmint does. Very impressive for a semi auto. Trigger is terrible though.

Consider trying the 'heated spring' for that A17. My A22 had a bunch of plastic bits floating around inside the action. I also sprayed the 'innards' with silicone dry-lube and quickly blew it out with canned air.
My A22 does about 1.5-2" at 100, not as good as my 455 SS Lux but OK ^O^

Mine has been flawlessly reliable and consistently accurate with everything I have fed it. Shoot this one a lot and am always happy with its performance.

Seems to really like CCI SV.

The only issue mine has had was failing to fire a few Winchester super x rounds. But that was ammo not the guns fault. Had that issue in everything I fed that ammo in.

I see some A22 fans here
I'm looking for a comparison between the A22 and the 64 as far as accuracy goes
in a hb or varmint
Can one be said to shoot better groups than the other?, ammo dependent of course

I've been tempted by A22 but I have three 10-22s that I'm rarely shooting along with a savage bolt action 22, 17, a browning trombone, cooey 75(?), none of which get much use. The 25 rnd mag for the A22 is a good selling point with the larger capacity mags for the rugers being frowned upon by the boys with the red jackets. Yes, I've done the dlask mod for one of my rifles but that magazine just doesn't work for me.

I had an A22 for a while. It had a heavy trigger that needed a Varmint spring from Gunshack in TX - they don't ship to CAN. My main bitck was that as the trigger 'reset' it made a distracting 'CLUNK' after Every Shot !! I didn't keep any detailed record of accuracy but it wasn't s-hot. I have 2X Sav-64s, one with a Holo-Dot and one with a 4x Weaver. I like both better than the A22. I chose to keep a B22 FV that I purchased at the same time as the A22, and the 25-round mag works fine in it too. The rotary mag is slightly diff loading process than a 10/22 but easy to learn.
Bottom line - Buy a 64, they're cheap and accurate enuf for plinking. Then buy a B22 for accuracy, mine is almost as good as my CZs.

I'll vote for the A22 over the 10/22, both for ergo and accuracy. Most 10/22s need more $$$ to make them as accurate as any Savage 22 or Marlin 22. The Marlin 795 (ca $200) is a stick magazine, but waayy more accurate than Ruger out of the box, as is most any Savage. My Savage 64 ($160 five years ago) shot 0.445" @ 50 with CCI-SV last Fall. With just a $15 MCarbo sear spring added. Most 10/22s won't do that.
^^^ This. I really like the B22 as well.

I sold mine to make room to get my daughter a youth rifle and I do really miss the A22. Was by far the most accurate semi auto I have used.

As my daughter grows I contemplating getting her another non single shot rifle that. She can start competing with me at ORPS.

Really thinking a A22 precision maybe a good option for her eventually.
