Savage A22 Rifle

I, too, picked up an A22 from the Cabela's BF sale (including rebate and sale on gift cards from Shoppers it worked out to about $225 taxes in). Haven't had a chance to shoot it, yet, but super impressed with how simple it is to strip down.

Also looking at swapping out the scope, probably for a red dot. Note: A17/A22Mag rails apparently are what fits newer model (post 3380376 Serial Number) 22LRs. Check EGW site's info for 41980 for measurements/info.

Good to hear about how easy it is to strip. I was wondering if the scope got in the way when you took off the cap at the back. From what you say no issues. I bought a rail for my gun and will install a Sparc11 on it. Trudeau apparently wants to buy one of my carbines so off comes the Sparc. AT 24 yards a hole just gets bigger.

ps Let us know when you get your rebate cheque. Have not got mine yet.

I can't comment on stripping it with the scope on, I pulled it off to measure the centre spread for a rail.

Still waiting on my rebates as well.

Savage rebate Qualified + Mailed

I have an EGW rail on mine, and it doesn't interfere with removing the cap from the rear.

I have the rail for the A22. I have not removed the scope and placed my Sparc11 on the gun yet. I want to play around with the scope over the winter and then go red dot optic ;ater in the spring for the matches.

Well I am back. This morning I decided ti mount my Sparc11 on my A22. The gun as you would know by now comes with a Weaver scope. The scope is quite nice but I do want to use the gun in competition where the Red Dot would be more appropriate off goes the scop and on goes the Sparc11.

Well I had ordered my EGW rail from Dominion Outdoors in November and found out rather quickly the rail was not going to fit the holes in the barrel. I contacted EGW in the US and found out Savage changed the holes in the A22 to conform to the A17. No they don't ship to Canada and they said they simply could not help me. Go ask the retailer for help was their message.

With fingers crossed and frankly feeling like I was about to get the same answer from Dominion, I made a phone call.

WOW the young man who answered the phone listened to my tale of woe apologized that he was new to the job but referred me to a gentleman named Saul. He listened to my story, and immediately left me with the impression he was going to be of help. He verified my purchase, realized where the confusion lie and asked me to return the part and he would ship out the correct part by return mail.

For owners of the A22. The new guns require the same rail as the A17. The package I have does say it fits the A22. What it doesn't say is only for the first versions of the gun. You want the part for the A17. The part number is either 41980 or 41982. Make sure the seller understands you have the newer version of the A22.

Lastly I want to thank and also recommend Dominion Outdoors located on Winkler, Manitoba for their great customer service. Too, Bullseye North who patiently tried to locate the sale order when I thought I had made the purchase there. Both Dominion and Bullseye demonstrated to me they are there for their customers.

Yup, that's what my bolded response above was about. Same deal for Weaver's rails. 48308 fits on the new A22LR, 48307 is the old hole spacing.

Glad to hear about your positive experience with the two retailers!

I have one and it had a ton of stoppages on cci ammo first time out. Wld not rely on this firearm at this time...

Mine has stumbled a bit with CC! Standard Velocity ammo as well. High velocity Remington worked just fine, no issues. Accuracy was not quite up to CCI Standard Velocity but accurate enough for playing the action shooting games which is why I bought the rifle. It would do a job on Golghar's as well out to 75 yards. I'll wait until the weather improves before doing any serious work with the gun.

I have an Anschutz for serious accuracy work.

Mine had about 30 rounds, total, through it when I took it to Mapleseed. It worked flawlessly on CCI SV. Maybe I just got lucky but I sure like this rifle. It's great for the cost!

I am wondering if maybe a break in will improve reliability. I am using g96 for lubricant anyone using different?

On my 2 semis, I run them 'dry' except for a dab of synth grease at the sear. Especially in cooler weather. Last time I was out it was 2-3C and my Marlin-60 bolt was slowing down due to cold - I had put a couple drops of rem-oil on the bolt a few weeks earlier, before it got colder. And running dry a bit will help parts 'break-in' quicker. Just look over the action after to make sure nothing is getting 'too worn in'. Also 'dry' makes cleanup easier ;-0 any lube collects carbon etc.

Mine has been flawless with cci std velocity and everything else I've put through it. Haven't had a hiccup yet with the factory mag (knock on wood). Its pretty accurate too.
I did have issues with the bc 25 round mags. I sent them in and they replaced them. The new ones are working perfectly.

I have been using the bc 25 rounders maybe thats the problem...

Did you send them to BC?

Geez I can't remember it was about a year ago. I think I called BC and they gave me a number in Canada to call. Bushnell Canada maybe, I honestly can't remember. They never asked any questions or wanted a receipt. They just said send them in and we'll replace them. I assumed they must have known there was issues with some. In any case, I got the new ones and have only tried one of the 3 so far and it functions perfectly. The original 3 I had were all crap.

Mine well lubricated from the factory but will use G96 in the future. I was shooting in temps just above 0C. I will be glad when ny new rail comes and I can mount my Sparc!! on the gun. Right now I have it scoped with the factory offering. The scope makes it impossible, for me, to easily re-install the innards after cleaning. I had to removce the scope to get everything back in place. After re-installing the scope it was just shooting an inch low at 25 yards which was easy to correct. I won't be using the scope most of the time so it will not be an issue. I think it is just a case of moving the scope a bit forward in the mounts to allow more of a angle at the back to provide a bit more room.

Has anyone injected foam in the polymer buttstock?

The gun is a shooter.
