Savage Accustock fitting issues

I just got my 10PC in 223 from a CGNer and I decided to take it out of the stock for cleaning and general know-how. A few issues:

- when bolting the stock back to the action, it doesn't seem to fit as well as before. Seems there's a "pivot point" that's not allowing the action to sit flush. I can put the rear bolt in first then apply pressure on the forearm to get the front bolt to tighten. It sits flush after that but that doesn't seem right...

- maybe it did this before and I never noticed, when I pull the bolt all the way back, it rubs against the safety. That doesn't seem right either...

I'm new to precision and Savages... Lemme know what's up and how to fix my issues. Thanks!

Savage use two mounting methods on their Accustocks, one system (Ver 1) has three mounting bolts, the front one tightens a small wedge system that engages the recoil lug.
The other system (Ver 2) only has two mounting bolts.

Version 2 is easy to install. All you do is 'start' the two bolts, then place the rifle verticle with the butt on the floor, etc. Then you apply downward pressure on the barrel to hold the recoil lug at the back of the stop in the stock, while holding the action/barrel in the stock base. The front bolt is tightened first and then the rear bolt is tightened.

To the best of my knowledge the 10PC may have the Version 1 wedge system. If it does, as mentioned there will be three mounting bolts. Based on what you described I think the wedge is giving you the problem.

To seat this system, you loosen the front screw and push up on it, this backs the wedge away from the recoil lug. Holding the action down in the stock, re-tighten the front screw and then back it off a 1/2 - 3/4 turn. Then the rear screw is snugged up until you feel resistance. Then tighten the middle screw, the return to the back screw and tighten it, then tighten the front screw.

Hope this helps.

If you have any questions, shoot me a pm.

^^ Ive got the newer 2-bolt system.

If I tighten bolt the bolts evenly and gradually alternating, the back end (where the safety is) will be raised from the stock almost 1/4". To correct this I have to tighten the read bolt all the way, then tighten the front bolt. I can post pics if it doesn't make sense.

Can anyone chime in on the bolt-rubbing issue?

You are not putting it together right, either the magazine housingis not seated or the wedge for the accustock is out of position, I would suggest going to the Savage website for instructions on how to reassemble.

I recently took apart my new Savage and I had two bolts. Pretty simple and had no issues, i used manual from savage website.
I hope you havent cross thread your bolts......
