Savage Actions for long range.

Savage action choice good. 300WM cartridge choice not so good. Too much recoil to shoot consistently.

I've never really considered a 300WM as having to much recoil but if it does for some that's why they invented muzzle brakes!!!

Why a 300 with a brake?

Unless you are reloading with match bullets, (and even if you are...)the 30 cal bullet livery suffers from really lousy ballistic coefficients. That translates into really poor long range precision, yet it is piad for with punishing recoil and crappy barrel life. If you are on a budget, think about what it will cost to feed a big ugly bastard like a 300 Win Mag.

You can equal or better the ballistics of most 30 cal bullets using 6mm or 6.5mm bullets and using a third of the powder. You will also learn to be a better, more accurate shooter.

I won't argue the ballistics of 30 cal vs 6mm or 6.5mm but he said we wants to use the rifle for long range hunting for moose and elk...will the 6mm and 6.5mm have more knock down power at long range????

I have a remmington 700 vtr .308 w/ muzzle brake, it is quite abit louder than the .308's with out that I have heard, and personally, i dont think its necessary for a .308 as the recoil is not too bad to begin with
