I'm having difficulty placing age (and approx. values) of 2 Savages and would be grateful for you input.

The first is a straight-stocked takedown I inherited. No evidence of a saddle ring, no checkering, old style safety, takedown model. It has a very faint letter "M" stamped near the front lever boss and the serial no is 2048xx. Made in Utica and chambered in .22 Hi Power. Redfield peep sight. I was left with some boxes of norma hunting rounds and brass. It is in reasonable shape and I'm in the pie-plate sized black on the range at 75 yards. The Hi Power cartridge looks fairly substantial when compared to .22 hornet.

Second is a much newer Savage, a long barrel with pistol grip, chambered in .300 Savage stamped "Ducks Unlimited", very good to excellent condition.

Thanks for your input.

24 hour campfire has some threads on the vintage and models and values of your model 99 rifles. without pictures or description of the overall metal condition and same of the wood, cracks in the tang are normal, is it splintering, finish still there etc. could be a $750 rifle. The DU in 300, if it has been shot, it is a hunting gun and likely commands no extra dollar value. depending on where you are in the country, some calibers and actions like levers are more popular towards the east than say saskatchewan so may earn you an extra $50-75 or sell a bit more quickly. is it walnut, unknown hardwood, maple, blueing luster, gold inlay, likely a $400-450 rifle. typically the 99's don't command the same collector or trader value as say the lever action winchesters do.
