Bell and Carlson Medalist Varmint stock for Savage
Hi,
So Santa brought me a new stock for my Savage 12FV... I have finally had the opportunity to take it out and test it against the factory stock.
The stock itself is much heavier and sturdier than the factory stock... when I had a versapod on the factory stock and wanted to adjust the cant while the friction was high, I could feel the factory stock twist and warp! Not the case with the new one... it has a large palm swell, and has a very nice textured finish... It feels like it has a bit longer lenght of pull than the factory stock... Now the combo of rifle, B&C stock and optics, it weighs in at an even 12 lbs... I'm glad I don't hunt... I wouldn't want to pack that monster around!
Other nice things about the stock... it has a nice recoil pad, although not a big deal with a 223...it has 2 front swivel studs, and it came out of the box free floated... it has an aluminum bedding block that apparently extends from the front swivel stud through the action area and into the butt... I had it glass bedded by my gunsmith in any case...
So the big question is how does it shoot?
Well, both of these groups were using Winchester USA 55gr FMJ off a bench and front sand bag... both were at 100m today, and the wind was gentle from about 3 o'clock... Both were 9 shot groups instead of 10... I had one dudd, so I kept both groups equal at 9 rnds...
The targets are both 1" big squares and 1/2" little sqares with a 1" circle.
I also had the smart stock accuracy thingy installed... but it wasn't on the stock for this trial... if it really does improve the accuracy as much as is says, then wow... cause it's shooting pretty well without it now!
Hope this helps anyone looking for a new stock.
