Savage Arms Edge?

anyone know if frontier is getting more? They just have the small bores left and just a few of them

I'm contemplating the .223, just dont have funds right now and there seems to be just one left in both camo and black

Just ordered one from cabelas in AB. $329 in black with scope ++. When it arrives it will be the same price as Frontier's, but I got the .308 I wanted. The last .308. They still have a few calibers in both black and camo. Yes, there are still 3 in .308 camo ($359++). There were 5 two days ago. You do the math. Will report when it finds paper.

Ooops. Read 'Cabelas in Winnipeg'. Should have my new Edge next week. Will try the trigger and if I don't like it, or if it is not inherently adjustable enough out of the box, I am looking at the Rifle Basix Sav-1 for it. Time, and a few groups, will tell.

I was into Cabelas this afternoon and picked up one in 223 along with some brass and dies. I was real surprised at the bolt, seems pretty smooth for a package gun @ $329.00. Will let you know how it shoots when I get rounds loaded.

I'm with SurvivorRye, If it shoots anything like the 111 you'll love it. I have the 111 in .270 and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Last month we drove from Halifax up to McAdam NB (5.5 hrs)to buy 2 new Savage Edge Packages in 270 and to get myself a paper punchin/target plinking/ varmint gun. A new TIKKA 223 Stainless Varmint..:(.siiighhhh((another thread)) :(The name of the shop is The Gun Dealer. He has the biggest shop in the Atlantic Provinces and after his recent renovations, he is claiming to have the biggest display rack in Canada!((see web site pics))..:D.anyways, after arriving and talkin about the new Edge he unlocked a couple and I tried it on for size. I didn't like the finish on the metal...seemed way worse than the Stevens 200...the stock is flimsy, but the "MAGAZINE"...well that's a different story...we couldn't get it OUT of the gun...Jammed SOLID!...the latch is only plastic and I think that if dropped in real cold weather...it would break on impact! We fought with this *^&$#^**ER for 10 minutes!! The other big disappointment for me is NO recoil lug on the barrel...it's incorporated into the stock!...no easy to mount Boyds TH for this one. Ross Faulkner(owner) thinks that there is gonna be LOTS of warranty issues with this gun. He is NOT recommending them for this /these reasons!!...He told the guys If you really want em, I'll sell em to ya, BUT, I personally don't think you should BUY IT!! Says alot when the dealer/owner tells you that in front of customers at his counter!! Me personally,...I wasn't impressed at all with the New Edge, and after handling it for 10 minutes, :(I decided....I'll never own one. This is my unbiased opinion only!! I love the Savage/Stevens guns as a rule, but this one leaves me shakin my head!...I/we do have 5 Stevens between our group of guys.....22-250 up to 7mm Mag.....some with RBasix triggers in em....they're simply awesome to shoot, and scary accurate for a cheapy gun!!...my 243 will easily cloverleaf @ 100 yds with factory win super x 100 gr...and ditto for my hand loads. If you can get the chance to handle one of those Edges,...give it a good hard look..I think you'll be disappointed!.:(....

Cabelas has most calibers in stock both black and camo.
And anyone thinking of dropping in an old Savage trigger they will not fit.
Might pick one up in a varmint caliber for myself, liked the feel.

Here's a review by Jeff Quinn.

I like the price, but I'm not in the market for a new rifle till next year. Hopefully there'll be lots of info by then:p

My Edge XP package in .308 arrived yesterday from Cabelas (in Winnipeg) and my first impression is very positive. For an entry level gun the fit and finish is quite acceptable. The bolt action is silky smooth right out of the box. There are a couple of minor burrs in the bolt's path in the receiver, but I will deal with that soon enough. The magazine works flawlessly. I only hope this is the case after some use. The best part was the level of accuracy when first exposed to paper. Nine shots fired and three groups of under 2" from an elbow supported position on a shooting table. Some tweaking to bring the groups to centre. The Bushnell is not the best scope I have ever peered through, but on this gun it is a good match with adequate capabilities (i.e. sharp image, easy sight-in, and lot's of light). I'm very impressed so far...

went and looked at it today at LeBaron. Camo one is horrible looking. Each side of the gun has a different camp pattern. 1 is all leaves, the other is all branches.

Black is much nicer.

I didn't buy like i thought i was going to. I still might, but from local store. Guys at lebaron were dicks.

Also looking at other rifles that come in .223

The second shoe drops. The new edge is acting in a peculiar manner on a closed cocked bolt. It tries to spring open. I think I may have to take a turn or two off the incredibly stiff and hugely loaded firing pin spring. Anyone else experience this? Otherwise, I am still quite enamoured of this little gun.

The trigger is just under 8lbs, The stock is made by Nerf I think? The clip on the front of the mag might last a day in the cold if you don't touch it ! When you pull the 8lbs trigger it pulls the barrel down in the stock and of your target, Total waste of your money!!
