I'm currently in the process of registering a old Savage Arms M1907 .32ACP "Pocket" Pistol, and I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get an accurate date of manuf. of the gun based off the serial? I did find a website awhile ago, but I can not find it anymore, and I think I may have been shut down.

Also, does anyone know how often a firearms officer will do random checks? To get this gun I have to prove I am a collector, and doing this allows them to do occasional random checks.
(I will be posting this in a more relevant forum as well)

Thanks!

Do not apply for a collectors licence! Ever for any reason!!!!

Why? I've been reading about it, and in some provinces it's a pain, but in NS it doesn't seem too bad. A few paragraphs of what and why I'm collecting. A waiver to do random inspections with notice. I can live with that, I got nothing to hide.

Whether you have nothing to hide or not is not the problem. Allowing the inspection is the problem, it is, for all intents and purposes, a warrentless search. Wanna look, get a warrent, period!

I have two of the little Savages and very much enjoy shooting them. Does yours have a grip safety? Metal or "Plastic" grips?

It has metal grips, but I'm not sure on the safety, I've only seen it a few times so far. It was kind of a forgotten handgun recently found. They seem like very interesting handguns, quite a rich history.

Please let me know if you would like to sell/trade it, I would be more than happy to send you a non-prohib pistol or revolver in exchange. Remember, once transfered to you, it becomes 12(7) providing you don't have 12(6) already, once in the 12(7) class it is there forever. You can "Pass it on" but you do not get the ablilty to purchase more, or even sell it!!
