The Model 42 is the perfect modern successor to the original Model 24; pioneers of the commercial combination gun, Savage produced one of the most popular and expansive lines of over/under break action firearms in history. The 20" .22LR barrel is 1:16" twist and the 20" .410GA barrel features a cylinder bore, allowing for use of slugs and buck like the popular Winchester PDX loads -- ideal for use as a small game hunting gun while retaining the ability to dispatch small predators such as coyotes.

I really had high hopes for this gun when I heard about it. But I wish they incorporated a take down feature and with a polymer stock theres really no reason NOT to integrate a shell holder into the stock. Those 2 features would push this into the must have category for me. Maybe in the future they'll make one like that. Non of the other take down guns or ultra small guns do what I want them to, this one does but isnt ultra small or a take down. Still... good price overall.
 
Yea, on board shell storage would of made it even better. Whenever I do pick on up, I might throw a m1 carbine style stock pouch on it, filled with some .22 & 410 quickstrips.
 
EGW lists a picatinny scope rail for this gun that attaches after removing the rear sight.

Do you have anything like this in stock?
 
Took my first couple of ptarmigain with the model 42 this past weekend. About -30 and worked well, used the 410 barrel.
 
HeadDamage: How do the Point of Aim and Point of Impact compare?
I had an older version of this type of firearm years ago, but the two barrels were nowhere close to the same POA/POI using the sights.
That said, I'm still interested in them.
 
I haven't done and serious bench testing of it yet but shooting offhand at 20m at a sheat of carbord they seem to be very close.
