Hi all,

I've been cruising around online in my spare time and I've noticed that some sites have an Axis 2 Heavy Barrel model for sale at a very reasonable price. From what I can see it has the rail on it for the mounting of optics similar to the Apex models. Does anyone have any experience with this and what the differences between the two rifles actually are?

Thanks in advance!

Seems only the heavy barrel is the difference.Axis 2 has the accutrigger ( both rifles) the heavy barreled version might have a different barrel length. If you go to the Savage website, you will find your answer most likely.

I don't see any heavy barrel Axis on the Savage webpage. I do see a few on dealer pages though.

It seems the only difference is barrel weight. Heavier barrel, which should equate to longer strings before it heats up too much. If you're buying a hunting rifle, it's additional weight you don't need. If you're buying a rifle for competition/range use, then I'd spend more money than the axis. And I'm an axis fanboy, being shooting the original axis in 270 for almost 5 years as my main hunting rifle.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the input.
