Worked on a 243 today... bolt would not open... customer was given some old ammo... don't know if it was a reload or not...
I had to remove the barrel, then drive the case out of the chamber...
The back of the case was all washed out into the extractor. The extractor was broken and the most outward part was right back against the action threads jamming the bolt and stopping it from rotating...
I tapped the broken piece in towards the firing pin tip until it came loose, then worked on the outer piece until it came off the action threads... then the bolt would turn...
I removed the bolt, got the broken extractor pieces out... worked on the ball and spring... got them out...
Cleaned things up as best possible and screwed the barrel back on setting the headspace with a steel go gauge.
The customer is going to have to get the parts he needs. I have offered to install them.
I suggest he fires a factory round and push it out of the chamber with a rod. It should push out easy... If it doesn't the chamber may be bulged. The barrel threads into the action are extremely tight. If it test fires okay he can continue... other wise he will need a new barrel as well as an extractor assembly.
