Hey guys new to the forum here, just a question here. I recently picked up a Savage Axis in .243 I plan on using it it for coyote/deer hunting. What do all the Savage shooters use for coyote rounds? So far I have purchased
Federal American Eagle
Varmint & Eagle Predator 75gr JHP
Hornady Superformance
Varmint 75gr V-Max
Just wondering what else I should try with this rifle, thanks

Since so many Savage Axis are sold as a combo with an "inexpensive" scope that will not take much adjustment experimenting with factory loads should be done one brand at a time.
Once you are dialed in for minute of coyote stick with that brand.
Planning on switching to a different load for deer? You may find it advantageous to find a good load for deer (95 or 100 grains) and use that on coyotes too.
The combo scopes are great for beginners but will not take a lot of adjustment and are suitable for one load. When it craps out you can upgrade.

Hope I am not reading too much in to the post but "new" and "Axis" triggered a response.

No that's great, thank you! I understand about sighting and sticking to one kind of ammo. I was just asking to see what kind of personal experiences people have had with this rifle so I can purchase a few different rounds and get the best shot groups

As with any new rifle , you have to shoot different weights and manufacturers ammo until you find the best results.

One thing I might add is, if you find factory ammunition that shoots great, see if they have more of the same lot #'s at the store and buy up a ton of it. Just as gun powder may vary from lot to lot, so might ammunition. Just my opinion anyways.

All they say, plus the Federal Ballistic Tip Varmint 55 gr if you plan to hunt coyotes. It's very flat, and accurate on my Savage 11.

I've loaded Barnes 62gr Varmint Grenade in my Savage .243
Shoots good and with good results. Saves the fur so you can skin it out with minimal pelt damage.
