So fellas last night I opened up the ol safe to make sure non of the guns have any rust on them, and upon inspection of my savage axis in .270, i cycled the bolt, and noticed that when it is fully and partially open i can wiggle the bolt up and down and side to side, not a little bit either.
Is this normal for these guns? Is it worth getting fixed or should i go buy a different one? I dont want to chance having my face infront of it and when I shoot, something blows up...

I checked my savage 11 in .243 and it doesnt do it so thats why im a little nervous

does it wiggle when the bolt is fully closed? If your worried about it you could always take it into a gunsmith, or check out some other Axis's at your local gun store if they have any. As long as it locks down tight I wouldn't worry to much (but I'm not shooting it nor have I seen the gun in person) so do whatever you have to do to put your mind at ease or the though of the thing going kablamo on you will taunt you every time you pull it out of the safe.

I've never seen a bolt action that didn't have any slack in the bolt when it is opened, some are tighter some are very loose.
The locking lugs are what keeps it locked up when it gets fired, it seems normal enough.
