Hi folks considering this as my next purchase mainly
for a longer distance precision shooter for the outdoor range
research shows its a good candidate when thinking accuracy
available upgrades and price point
Anyone with experience please chime in with your wisdom
And those with the rem700 customs over 1500 please save your comments that's out of my budget
thanks

I have an edge in camo (same as axis) in .243 and love it.I upgraded the scope (it shot fine with the one on it,just wanted something a little better) and it is a very accurate rifle. Not the prettiest gun in the world by any means but it shoots great.Fairly smooth action. The trigger is a little stiff but after I got used to it no problems at all.

You can have a precision rifle on a budget. However, the Axis should no be your platform. Get a Stevens 200 or one of the cheaper 110/10 rifles. They are a way better platform to build off of. Not only because they are a better product, but because the avaliability of parts is far better.

Stevens 200 = $299
Match barrel = $350
Boyds stock = $95
Timney trigger = $110
Bedding compound = $50

For under $1000 you have something that will shoot better than any factory rifle and you can do the whole project in stages, saving up for each component.

hmm thinkin on it
no other axis lovers huh

I fired a friend's Axis (.30-06) on the range. As a low cost basic general purpose hunting rifle I think it is good value for money, but like cam1936, if you want to build something else out of it, I would start with a Stevens 200.

In my opinion the Axis is fine for hunters on a budget, but not for precision shooters, even if they're on a budget. Mainly because a Savage 11/111 and a Stevens 200 is just a little bit more. If you want to go budget, I understand, but I'd skip the Axis.

Well the stevens is close like literally 30 bucks ,but the 11/111 is like 200.00 more for the hunter model quite a diff there
