Hi folks, I have wandered the halls of the internet today and have come up empty handed. I am looking for a set of iron sights for a savage axis. I would be cool with a set of sights off a savage hog hunter. If anyone knows where a guy can find a set( without buying the whole gun) or knows of a set of irons that fit a savage axis please let me know, any help would be great..Thanks.

The rifle that you have is likely with a comb height suitable for a scope - so you probably want iron sight line to be similar? Else, you may not get your face scrunched down low enough on the stock comb to align "low" iron sights? I had a Ruger No. 1 that was like that - really good looking express type iron sights - comb height was about perfect for using a scope - but I could not easily get my face down low enough on that comb, to use those nice looking sights, with the scope removed. That one was a "Lipsey Special" in 275 Rigby - I no longer own it.

hi all, i own a the savage hog hunter in 308 with iron sights. I will soon own a savage axis without any iron sights in 223. I am basically gonna make a "hog hunter" out of this 223 by adding the hog hunter type sights to the 223, if i can find a set. I would also be totally cool with finding and having any other set of irons that might fit on an axis.

Any gunsmith or really good hobby smith can add a front ramp and rear ramp sight of your choice. If your going bubba on it you can glass bed the ramp and rear to your barrel profile if its not exact as is. If your doing a ramp and rear ramp youll be tapping blind holes for the sights. Make sure you have it indexed properly! Or you can have dovetails filed in but im guessing it would put your sights awful low to use with your current comb.

Williams WGOS base, rear insert. and front ramp/sight

Or a skinner lo-pro and front ramp for a peep sight option.

You might find it costs a little much for a cheapo rifle, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

Thanks for the help. It will likely cost more than I want to spend but I know it will be worth in the long run.
Thanks to everyone lese for chiming in, im grateful for the input.

Are you getting the rifle free? If not why not get a decent rifle with irons already on it? The cost of rifle, gathering parts and installation is going to add up to the cost of a infinitely better used rifle.
