So I picked up a savage axis in .223 with iron sights since I'm not much of a scope guy. I assume the stock is designed with the thought that most people would put a scope on it because it hold your cheek and eye line higher than where it needs to be to get a good sight picture on the irons.

My question is, would it be easier (or even doable) to replace either the front sight to get it lower or the rear sight to get it higher? Or look for a replacement stock with a lower cheek weld?

Thanks for any input guys and gals.

My experience with iron sights is that the front and rear sight are matched up within the thousands of an inch. If you raise the front, you'll have to raise the rear the exact same amount.

The best bet might be to add a reciever sight, with a globe sight on the front. If you really like the factory sights you'll be forced to buy a new stock with more of a cast or cant ( don't remember which one it's called).
