So I've been looking for an affordable but decent entry level rifle and have decided on a savage axis...the only problem is I do not care for the stock...so I will be building my own...
I haven't got the gun yet and won't for a while (spent too much on handgun and membership fees) but I want to start designing my custom stock.
I was hoping someone with an axis could do me a favour and measure the overall length of the stock to give me a starting point.
Thanks in advance

Question.. Why not start out with a better rifle like a model 11 or even a stevens 200. Or something with a bottom metal to attach the mag for. The mag on the axis kind of sucks and the long action on a 223 case really is a downfall for me at least
That said the stock on my axis is 32 1/2" with the recoil pad.

Bob, you sure have a talent for stock building...I'm humbled before I start lol...if only I had the wood working skills...it's composites for me!
Hometown hero: the research I have done has led me to the savage, but I see the Stevens is in the same price range...if you have the time I'd be interested to hear the pros of that rifle...

Theres lots of info here in the forums already on the stevens

Look down this page where you posted this and youll see a post comparing the two

the axis has almost zero aftermarket following, the only thing you can buy for it that I am aware of is a trigger. The stevens line is basically a savage 11 with a blind mag. This means you can purchase stocks and other parts for the 11 and they will work on the stevens. I had an axis, very accurate with hornady 55gr vmax.

I now own a savage 111 international trophy hunter and would never go back to an axis, better parts are available for the 11/111. The next rifle on my list is another savage 111 or stevens in 25-06. Look around online and you can find a 111 with accu trigger for around $500 with a half decent weaver scope. Excellent platform for a build!
