Savage Axis scope base issue

Hey guys, I have a savage axis in .308. The base mounts are about 1/4 in too far apart for me to use regular scope rings on my vortex crossfire. 30mm tube

Now I'm faced with, do I buy a scope with a longer tube? Or do I try with longer /extended scope rings? And what rings to get? My LGS is deadweight when it comes to giving advice or being useful. So here I am appealing to the experts.

I use extension rings a lot, they work well when you can’t use a one piece base. Your rifle will take a one piece base which means you can use regular rings. I have the one piece base on mine.

If you buy a pictanny rail and then mount your bases on top of it may be a solution

I put a full one piece rail on my axis.
Not I can mount just about anything on it and get the correct alignment.

One piece pictinny rail or extended weaver #402 bases easy peesy
