I replaced my Savage Axis stock with a Boyd's today and I found out something that surprised me about the Savage stock. It's pillar bedded. I plan on glass bedding the Boyd's stock plus adding pillar bedding. Should be interesting to see if it shoots any better. Even if it doesn't it sure looks better.

Adding pillars to the Boyds is a good idea IMO. My Axis action kept coming loose in my Boyd's until I pillar bedded it...mind you it was bounced around a lot slung on my back while riding quads and sleds.

PS,.....pillars are standard in the Axis plastic stock.

Could you fellas give us a review on improvements you find with the stock besides looks?
I picked up an Axis in .223 and am debating spending almost the purchase price of the rifle on an upgraded stock without seeing significant return.

I just ordered 2 Remington 783 thumbhole stocks and it was $452.00 CAD, shipping in.

Managed to find a friend who wanted the same upgrade and we split shipping ($60.00USD)

Well the stock fit really well and shots about the same as the old one. Feels much better though. Will be doing some handloads for the AXIS and see if I can shrink the groups down from a ragged MOA to maybe a nice .75 or still my heart maybe even .50.
