Just to be different I would say Yes and I did. As a single shot hunting rifle you have the added element for making one shot really count. And if you were really wanting an internal mag it is possible using existing mag parts. You can mag feed the axis, al be it with difficulty due to the shallow ejection port. I was pleased with my result. And wood just feels better in the hand.
FWIW, I used a staggered fed stock. I think the centerfeed stock would work as well. It requires redrilling of the front action screw (recommend also using a steel pillar epoxyied in place), use or no use of the existing recoil tab (I used bedding as my tab) and the install of centerfeed mag parts into the mag well. Overall, worked very well and not a bad option if you are handy.
