Anyone ever done a trigger job on their axis? Looking for info on which way you went. Weather you cut the spring ,changed the spring an added a screw ?....

I cut about 1 full coil off mine. Same as lex made a big difference. I started with 1/2 coil and tried. It helped but not as much as I liked so cut another 1/2 off and perfect. Thought about buying new trigger for it but as lex said as well they are cheap gun and figured I do it the cheapo way.

I have used an accutrigger on the axis. Requires mods to the trigger housing....very good improvement
I have used the cut coil method, not bad but still not as good as using an accutrigger
May want to look at the aftermarket options from timney or rifle basix as your best options.
My 2c.

I was super close to pulling the trigger (Ha! Pun intended) on a rifle basix; but in the end, I'm a cheap bastard. Although I HAVE put some serious thought into replacing the stock with a Boyd's...

I also cut my spring. Total of 1 1/2 coils.

I did it at 1/2 coil clips at a time for first two "clips" then a couple 1/4 coil clips - by the fourth clip it felt "ok" and didn't want to go any further. If you clip too much you can't put it back :)

I clipped the spring without much improvement. Same with polishing the engagement surfaces. I think you have to stretch the spring out after you cut it to get a softer spring rate? I also think that you have to actually hone the surfaces with a stone to get a crisper release. I ended up buying the rifle basix and love it.

Watched the whole series the other night start to finish just for the guy to get sick and not shoot the 1000 yds. That's the shots I wanted to see. Otherwise very informative. That pro varmint is my only option said Boyds for a lefty an to keep a right hand action in 30-06.

I'm thinking the exact same stock for the exact same reason. Mines in .223.

I bought a Savage Axis package in .223 just for the ridiculously cheap price. I took it to the range and absolutely hated the stock trigger. Just about bugged my eyeballs pulling the beast. I tried honing and polishing and clipping the spring. It smoothed things out a lot but still was too crude for target shooting. I bought a Timney trigger for it and it made a world of difference. Trigger draws smoothly with clean break now. I was so impressed that I went out and bought another one in 7mm-08 and plan to put a Rifle Basix trigger in it to do a direct comparison.
Both rifles were packaged with some pretty lame optics so I swapped out the .223 for a Tasco I own that I like and have a brand new Vortex Diamondback 3-9X I will install on the 7mm-08.
Some time this year I will post results.

I forgot to say - the 7mm-08 trigger is actually way better than the .223 I got. Not gritty at all and way smoother than my first model. For hunting I would say it is entirely adequate but I want to play around off the bench.

I removed the stock spring, replaced it with one from a pilot g2 pen, and a 3/4" screw. The screw does double duty as an over travel adjustment. Huge improvement.

I'm thinking about trimming the spring too, its still a bit heavy but wayyyy better than stock.
