I bought a Savage Axis 25-06 for my son to use for deer hunting and the stock trigger is horrible!! I have been reading about the aftermarket triggers and it seems tht the Timney and the Rifle Basix are the most common. It looks like the Timney is easier to install and has more of an adjustment range, but is is also a little bit more money (about $20.00). Has anyone made this change on their Savage, how did it work, and what are your thoughts? I have to do something as it is that bad and as a young hunter he is pulling his shots. Thanks!

I installed a rifle basix trigger. It took less than 15 minutes and was as easy as it gets. The instructions were very clear and well illustrated. The result was excellent. It breaks like a thin piece of glass. 1000% better than factory.

Haven't used a Timney but my vote goes for the Basix. I ordered it directly online from their website with no issues.

I have seen posts about trimming the factory trigger spring, but I wondered how that would affect the safety of the gun expecially in the hands of a young hunter?? He is used to shooting my Tika T3 with a trigger just under 2 pounds. Is the trigger trimming safe and what would it reduce the trigger pull to? I haven't measured the pull yet as I know the guage will read "wow...that sucks". The thing I do like about the Axis is that it is a tack driver and I can shoot tighter groups than the T3......it is just that darn trigger.

I trimmed 1.5 coils off my .25-06 axis and it made a world of difference. Its been banged around and smacked about and has still never mis-fired. These rifles are cheap, but like you said, they will drive tacks. even with the factory sharpshooter scope, my wife put 4 shots inside a penny at 100 yards, that was with my Axis .223, but they all seem to prove the same.

On thing to keep in mind though, if you do bubba the trigger, when putting it back together, make sure the recoil lug is centered properly... if you don't, it'll tear the shoulder off you! hahaha... ask me how I know. ;)

Hey, I'm not sure what you mean by recoil lug. Are you talking about the bolt lug itself? How should the lug on the bolt look when you replace the bolt?

Although many have altered the trigger spring by cutting coils I really do not recommend doing this. The possibility of a misfire is definitely there. This is something you just don't want to mess with. Especially when there are safe solutions to the trigger problem out there.

IMHO the cost of a BASIX or Timney upgrade is a lot less than the problems a misfire can cause.

100 bucks is all the cost for a basix trigger. If you are giving this gun to a shooter hate to have to explain a misfire if the gun goes off because you cut too much spring off the trigger spring. Safety first. If you are giving this gun to your son hate to explain it to your wife if an accident happens because you wanted to cheap out.

Well said Peter.

Did you get yours in yet?

shoulda bought a t3

You mean another T3. My 25-06 that my son was shooting until I bought the Axis for him is a T3 and it is a fantastic gun.....great trigger and the 60 degree bolt is smooth, but the Savage will shoot a tighter group even with a crappy trigger. I am going to take the advice on the post and grab a basix trigger for the savage and make this a better gun for my boy. Thanks everyone!

I just got the rifle basix it is awesome, I got the silver which is very shiny almost like chrome it matches the bolt and looks better than black.
