Savage Axis Wood Stock???

There was a member on here that was working on one. Cant remember his name though lol. He also said that it might have to be single shot because of the mag

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I started the R&D on a laminated replacement stock for the Savage Axis. Should be ready end of March, and if all goes well it will accept the mag.

Bob I've been following your progress. Definitely interested in pricing on a laminate stock that can use the Savage mag.

With the number a Axis/Edge rifles sold (a lot-at least in my area) I'm certain aftermarket support isn't too far behind. The trigger upgrades are on the market so I would expect more stocks as well. The Axis package must be an important part of Savage's sales numbers over the last couple of years. I'd like to know how many they sold overall.

I know that on CGN we are at least 173 to have one.

If all goes as planned, my stocks will be in laminate, stained to your choice, mag capable on the "short action" caliber, I cannot test the longer 30-06 / 270 and the like.

The butt pad will be made of rubber mat (the one made from recycled tire), if I want to keep cost down I cannot install a 40$ buttpad on them.

I am making the trigger guard myself. I will supply the screws to bolt the action into the stock.

The shape is about the one of a hunting stock, LOP is +- 13 1/2". All you will need to do is remove the action, bolt it back into the now stock, click the mag in place, remove sling swivel from the plastic stock, and screw them into the new stock.

The inletting will make the barrel free floating, and it will be big enough to fit a varmint size barrel. I switched my barrel on my action and I will make them to fit this, so if anyone here switches barrel you will be able to fit into the stock.

That,s all there is for now, I'll keep you posted.

What about the recoil lug?

Mag is holding in place on the new stock ! Still need a rear metal support, but I'm getting there
