Savage Axis worth the money?

has anyone else every seen a savage bolt body do that?

At the opposite end of the spectrum Jerry from Mystic had a video on here a while back where he dragged an Axis behind a quad for quite a ways at a good speed and it still functioned properly.

The savage axis is a great entry level gun. No bells no whistles. It's fit and finish is acceptable for the price. Are there better finished guns available sure. But the axis has it where it counts for budget rifle. The little buggers shoot well. With minimal tinkering. My son and brothers inlaws all have them in .223 and all of them can print a pretty decent 3 round group at 100 yards. Moa or less depending on the conditions and the shooter and that is with the cheapo budget scope they came with and the $0 dollar trigger spring coil clip fix I performed. That says a lot for a $268.00 rifle taxes in! That is what make the axis a decent firearm imo it has the ability to be as accurate or more accurate than some much higher dollar firearms. And really as a hunter and recreational shooter that is what most of us are after, something that gives us confidence in the ability to put the bullet where it we want it to go.

Another big thing for these rifles is that MOST....owners have good things to say about these guns and for the price and they way they shoot they make fun hobby or build guns.
If you have one enjoy, if you want one get one, if you get one understand what you bought, an inexpensive accurate "entry level" firearm.
But if you get the opportunity to sit beside the guy at the range with the $1000.00 dollar rifle and get the chance to compare some groups and your little axis prints smaller ones. Just smile and say "nice rifle, too bad it doesn't shoot"

I have had 3

A 270 I sold to a co-worker because he wanted a deer rifle and he is one of those 5 shots a year guys, it still has the original"garbage" scope with 0 issues

a 243 I gave to my brother because I wanted room in my safe and I never shot it anyway, since I bought my 243 BLR, again 0 scope issues

a 223 that may or may not ride around in my back seat and collect mud and dust and even a little rust and I just don't care because it is what it is, 0 scope issues hits where it is aimed

There is a lot of Savage haters out there and sure every now and then every manufacturer makes a dog but you can not argue cost and accuracy about Savages

there is nothing wrong with an axis for an entry level rifle.
i dear say any critter in my scope is toast.
still working on oal, groups should tighten up a bit more.

here is a 5 shot group @ 100 yards with axis 223.

At least it wasn't the bolt head that cracked..... You should be able to get a new bolt body from Savage.

Any leads on the best price on these rifles in steel or stainless? Thinking of an inexpensive .223 for coyotes and fun at the range with my nephew. Thanks

Wait until the fall or x-mas, wholesale sports generally has somekind of special on them.

Those are some pretty good groups for and entry level rifle. Imo ! I've seen a lot worst groups from much more expensive rifles.

Love my Axis .223, picked it up as display model from WSS for under $300 before tax with the Bushnell scope included.

Shootin cheap Barnaul 62gr FMJ without trying hard I can put 20 rounds into 1-7/8" group at around 100 yards.

My only negative remark about the rifle is the factory plastic stock flexes easily, I'll be building a new stock later on so I don't care for now.

Everyone loves to shoot it and has a great time, an only ever had failures to fire with Norinco ammo, hard primers to blame.

Ok so that was a 75 yard group, not exactly 100 as I thought but regardless it will still group as others have said, just need some .223 dies then I can work up a custom load for my rifle to get better results.

100-200 yard range the rifle can hit pop cans all day even with new shooters behind the trigger.

The accuracy of the budget rifles usually is fine, it's how much of the traditional rifle "quality" you are willing to sacrifice that remains the question....
