Savage Axix 22-250 replacement barrel?

Hi guys,

I just got a new Savage Axis 22-250 on a trade, and actually like the rifle. I want to customize it a bit and re-stock it, but first i want to re-barrel it with a heavy profile barrel. Where can I find one for this rifle? Will any of the model 12 bbl's fit on the action? i wouldnt mind the 12 bvss, or btcss 26" stainless. I want to re- barrel it, and then get a Boyd's thumbhole stock ,ade for the model 10 series and retro fit it to my axis....

You can go one of two ways here

1 - call Savage direct and ask for Tech Support. You'll need the serial number off your Axis and ask if you can retro-fit any of the barrels your interested in. They should be able to tell you what will and won't. Savage should be able to ship direct to your door the barrel. I'm thinking the 10 series barrels maybe the closest fit to the Axis base one.

2 - get ahold of Jerry @ Mystic Precision ( board sponsor) and see what a custom barrel (Kreiger & McGowen) barrel will run you in the length & configuration you need.

Chances are the OEM Savage barrel will be just as expensive as a custom, given currency conversion, shipping etc

I would like to preface this by saying I love savage, I like Axis, but why would you waste money rebarreling one

Savage uses 2 different shank diameters. Call and see what yours will be and then get any barrel with the same shank.
