Savage barrel nut torque

If you can remove it by hand, it's not tight enough ;)

Supposedly savage does 87ft/lbs. This would be using a NEW nut and is 'wet' as they use a thread 'sealer' (not locker?)

The head of Savage stated, in an interview somewheres on the interweb, that they do 70ft/lbs.

Others have stated 50ft/lbs max otherwise you risk breaking the nut (I assume this is using a USED nut).

General consensus is 30-40ft/lbs will be good to go.

Yes it is a used nut. 30- 40 it will be thanks. I was on a lot tighter than that when I took it off not that it was needed to be that tight though.

The face of the nut is a bit rough and bites into the receiver when tightened. This is why it is so hard to get off. Run it over some fine sandpaper, to smooth it off a bit, before putting it back on. You can always scribe a witness mark, so you can see if it ever moves.
