hi there,

I recently bought a 17 WSM from Savage (model B Mag). I want to know if its normal that when I put a bullet in the chamber, I need to remove the safe from the gun otherwise when I press the trigger, I only hear a "click", the bullet doesn't shoot.

I want to know if its normal that I have to put the gun in "Fire mode" when I load a bullet in the chamber ?

I dont know if you understand my question ?

You can't cycle the gun on safe . It will not fire. You have to cycle on fire and put it on safe after the bolt has been closed. Their all like that.

so its normal to put a bullet in the chamber in "fire mode" ?

it is safe ?

what to do if you cycle in safe mode ? you have to open the bolt, put it in fire mode, close the bolt ?

what do you means by "all like that" ?

Reading the manual that came with the gun would be a good starting point to answer the questions you have.

in the manual, it said that the gun must be in the full safe position beforce cycling the gun.

so why we have to do this but the rifle will not shoot ?

Wouldn't be the first time they wrote the wrong instructions in a manual.? Guys on Rimfire Central had the same discussion a month ago. Same answer I posted.

Any gun will have to be in fire mode (safety off) to load it. A few guns (mainly shotguns) will automatically put the safety on when you close the action, but most do not. The standard procedure is to load the gun with the safety off, then put the safety on if you do not plan to shoot it immediately. If you have a loaded cartridge (not bullet, by the way) in the gun, you will need to take the safety off to open it and eject the loaded round. The Browning X bolt allows you to open the action with the safety on, others do not. Ths is nothing to be concerned about, but always, ALWAYS practice safe gun handling. The gun should always be treated as if it is loaded, the muzzle must always be pointed in a safe direction, and your trigger finger must always be out of the triggerguard unless you plan on pulling the trigger.

on my tikka t3, i can load a bullet in the safe mode ON and I can shoot after in fire mode... I had always loaded my rifles in safe mode then putting it in fire mode to shoot...

first time I hear this...
