Hey,

Bought a used Savage 10tr in .308. Turns out the bolt lift is more than I expected (not terrible but still heavy). Got the bolt apart and was looking at the body. The forward edge, that the cocking piece rides on, seems deformed compared to my other bolt.

Anyone run into this before and/or have a fix?

Where could I buy a bolt body besides the EE?

Also, I swapped the bolt body with another savage I own and that fixed the bolt lift issue so I am fairly confident that it is the body causing the issue.

Appreciate the help.

Before a bunch of people post and tell you to clip the spring and install a "kit" etc, let me explain a few things.
The Bolt Body is case hardened. I can't remember but maybe 0.015" deep at 62Rc hardness. If the ramp is "polished", that hardness may be gone and wear may occur.
For proper ignition you want a firm strike, which is right around 22lbs from the spring. The factory springs are perfect the way they are.
Firing pin tip protrusion should be as close as you can get to .045".
The Cocking Piece Pin should NOT hit the bottom of the Bolt Body when released. The firing Pin Stop should hit the bolt head and stop the firing pin not the cocking piece. Simply set the travel up so the CPP almost hits the ramp bottom but doesn't.
If your rifle does not have the new style bolt with the Cocking Indicator, you can use a 38 special case head cut off short with a ball bearing to reduce lift friction. You need to trim the added length off of the Bolt Assembly Screw.
Relocating the Spring Washer to between the Bolt Head and Front Baffle as opposed to the Front baffle and Bolt Body helps your applied anti-galling molybdenum grease stay on the lugs longer.

Thanks for the advice. I'm guessing that the hardness on the bolt cocking ramp was not as hard as it was supposed to be hence the deformations/excessive wear I'm seeing on the cocking ramp. I don't think I have any issues with the firing pin assembly as it works fine when I drop it in my other bolt. I feel like replacing the body is my only option.
