I have a Model 16 weather warrior in 300WSM and I am thinking about changing it to something else like 243 or 6.5 cr. Will any standard face bolt head from a 110 series be compatible? Or do I need to stick to those from a short action or even from another model 16?

On that note, if you happen to have one that you are willing to part with, I am interested.

Thanks for any input.

This is a similar project I took on (still incomplete like so many of my plans). One thing to consider is that there are slight variations in the firing pin. I forget the exact details but something else to consider.
Be very careful about the extractor detent ball, that's another warning I saw coming again and again.

Hopefully others will chime in with actual experience, I guess that I'm still in the research part as well.

Fair enough, I have also read a lot of warnings about that detent ball as well.

I wonder if a short action from the same era but as a model 12 or 14 would have a compatible bolt head.

I used a couple Savage 16's in 270 wsm as the basis for a couple builds, one a fast twist 223 and the other a 6.5-284. Bolt heads, I just used standard model 10 types. Had no issues with the extractor ball, though I did end up replacing the extractor on the one that became a 223. The firing pin warning is something to watch out for, but they are adjustable in the Savage. - dan
