Have a Savage combo gun , the selector for changing from rifled barrel to shotgun barrel has fallen off. Am I right in believing there is a conversion kit available to fit the later type selector which is part of the hammer and if so, where would I be able to obtain one.? Thanks for any suggestions.

If it is a side button selector, falling off was not uncommon. You are right in that the later style hammer can be installed. Not sure where you can get one, but try Elwood Epps in Orillia.

I have the model with the selector in the hammer. I called Savage and they informed because it was without a serial # it was pre 64. Got the number off their webpage and the guy who answered the phone was very helpful. Check it out.
 
Please don't Bubba it with a hammer mount selector. Try to find a replacement selector button. Try Western Gun Parts in Edmonton or Ebay or a WTB on the EE.

As I am currently discovering, if you convert to the hammer selector. You need new firing pins too, they are slightly longer. Somebody did the conversion on one I just bought and never tested it, and ultimately doesnt work yet. I am waiting on new pins.
