silk purse out of a ........ :D

yea i'm not seeing how this is precision. if it was something like an after market PTG bolt ground to .704 then the action bored out to .705 for true and precision fit i would understand but this is just eye candy and doesn't help with accuracy at all.

plus im a fan of PTG's small diamond grind or the spiral grind

Considering the amount of work needed to make your generic Rem functional as a match action...

Who's making what out of what? :nest:;)

All the bolt bodies pictured are very nicely done and I will have to look at something to dress my rifle up.

GB, I am sure you understood that Savages don't need the bolt body fit to that action. We can swap parts from similar actions at will.

First off, the manf of the bolt bodies have tolerance more then close enough that swapping is possible.

And the headspace is controlled by the bolt head which is independent of the rest of the bolt from this perspective.

Can you send me a PM and let me know what you would charge to spiral flute or do some of the other flutings on a bolt body?

I Know what you mean Jerry, I was just joking when I said that to Him, I was just at his place to day and looking at the Savage fluting bolt, look very nice and sharp, I would suggest that there no need to spiral flue the whole bolt, just about 2" near the rear of the bolt, this will ensure that frost on a cold winter doesn't interference with the action of the bolt, I only do is as a hobbies.

this Photo from Snipershide show an Accuracy international bolt fluting design, show only the rear of the bolt is Flue.

This is strictly cosmetic and bling. I like all the various fluting style especially the PTG spiral/edgy style. Very nice looking.

With the thickness of the bolt body, they would have to be shallow anyways.

There is plenty of clearance in a Savage bolt to work in any weather.

Apparently, the fluting on the back of AI bolts is for arctic warefare. Your bolt can't 'Freeze' shut because the fluting reduces surface area contact.

That was from a show about the top 10 sniper rifles, on youtube somewhere...

I just got my black powder coated bolt from SSS same as the black one in the first post of this thread.....

Yes its 100% bling and the reason I went with that design is because everyone has the spiral flute and I wanted something a bit different.
