Hi guys. I was wondering if anyone here has dealt with savage and had some custom work done. And if the prices are reasonable. I tried to get a custom tikka, no dice. And I heard savage does custom orders. I want a 10- flcp-k but chambered in 300 wsm in a hi grade walnut stock, in stainless if possible.

I have not dealt with them myself but from what I have read elsewhere what they can do is swap various parts from production firearms to make the one you want.

My uncle had a fast twist 6br repeater made up a few years ago they where good to deal with. But I think it has to be ordered threw your local savage dealer. You should be able to have that made for you though.

I recently ordered a target action/barrel from Savage. I good friend of mine works for Savage, so I don't know how to order a custom gun from them.

Since I had a "connection" it didn't take long to get my action/barrel, but I understand there is a considerable wait time to get a non-standard gun from them. As mentioned above, they offer mixing/matching existing parts that can be interchanged to "customize" the gun to you liking.

You can also order a Savage action from them and Savage has an arrangement with E.R. Shaw to fit a custom barrel to the action. E.R. Shaw purchase Savage actions for many of their builds. As an option you could deal directly with E.R. as well.

Hope this helps.

Not sure how custom you want to go but much of what you ask for is non standard Savage fare so likely the costs will be up there.

Compare what the Savage custom shop charges and what a gunsmith in Canada will charge. Maybe there is not a huge difference given the costs and time to import.

With a gunsmith custom, you can also spec the quality of barrel. Savage is only going to use a factory barrel so you may end up with a "pretty" rifle but likely shoot and handle like any other factory rifle.

So if the goal is to have a unique factory rifle, Savage might be able to help.

If you want a true custom, consider those that specialise in that work...

YMMV

Thanks Jerry. I may look into that as well. E.R Shaw quoted $1091 for a Left Hand stainless steel action, 27"stainless varmint barrel with spiral fluting all matte finish in a walnut stock chambered in 300 win mag. Pretty much exactly what I want. But I haven't really heard much about them. However, I would have to have irunguns.ca import the gun because they wont ship to Canada, so that would cost another $200 plus hst and duties, as well as shipping. So I'm likely looking at around $1600 as a rough guess. Any idea what a custom gun from a smith would run?

Buy the cheapest stainless left handed savage you can find, order a barrel (mystics been awesome to deal with), order a stock from boyds and have at her... or get mystic/ BARC to put her together. If you can find a barrel available now, you could be shooting it in a few weeks instead of a few months.

Exactly!

Silly to pay Savage a whole bunch of money to get just another "Factory" rifle.

The ER Shaw option is a decent one, but being in the US there is a huge issue with import, etc. and again a waste of money.

As suggested buy a cheap Savage and get either Jerry(MysticPrecision) or NorthShore to do the work for you, and you will be happy. They both have the knowledge, and products available right here in Canada.
