On you mag question, NOPE and none in the foreseeable future. Best you can do is graft in a RUM box from Savage into last gens actions. Savage has dumped the entire RUM lineup and if there are no factory rifles - no accessories.
As for the second, I shot 240's out of a RUM some years back. LR whoop A$$ was very impressive. Problem is that 240's do need sorting out of the box and may grenade in a rough bore. QC is not all I would have expected given the costs but that may have improved?????
I ended up shooting more 220gr MK's and these worked just fine out to a mile and were sub MOA at 1000m. I think the new 208 Amax and 210gr Berger would be my choice for this set up today. But then I wouldn't need a RUM either - 300WM is just fine for LR plinking when using a long tube.
And if all you want is superb LR ballistics, why not just go with a 7WSM or 7RM and push 180gr Bergers over the horizon? Better ballistics then the 300 RUM and easier on the pocket book.
My 7 Mystic which is my version of the 280AI pushed 180gr Bergers at 2800+fps from a 24" Shilen. Was spooky accurate in the winds at 1000m.
Or you could shoot a 6.5 Mystic or similar and have all sorts of fun for even less money spent and longer barrel life. Then you could get a moderate case 6mm or even the wonderful 6BR......
Keep in mind that LR accuracy has as much to do with the bullet as the amount of powder you burn. A large case can only provide a bit more speed. Crappy bullets just get expensive.
With todays amazing small cal bullets, you don't need a boomer to shoot extreme accuracy 3 to 4 seconds away. yes, wind drift is more but a predictable rifle can be steered in some pretty nasty winds.
Inside 1000m, I will be able to keep up with most 338's using my 223 as far as plinking goes. If you can dope the conditions and have a well tuned rig, you will be quite surprised at the level of accuracy available.
Bigger is only better when you want to put a hurt on something.
