Gents,
What can I do.
I bough a Savage Trophy hunter in 260,
I have like 6 Savage`s and there`s a reason why I keep buying them BUT : !!!!

This 260 was from day one a POS: No accuracy at all, cant it the barn door.
I`m more accurate with my sling shot (benchrest of course) than this 260.

NOVEMBER 2013: After few weeks and $$$ ammunition, I contacted Savage, the
instructed me send it to Armurier ALAIN DEPOT, from Granby, PQ. Which I did the next day.

After a FULL three months waiting and no updates at all, I tried to call ALAIN DEPOT on multiple occasion,
I was never able to talk to him, no answer after three days trying, I contacted Savage again.

27 FEB 2014: I finally received this answer from Savage: Hi ###X,
I have emailed Alain and once I receive an answer I will need a copy of your sales receipt and your name and address to send you a refund check. I need to make sure he has the firearm and destroys it before I can send you a check.
I will let you know when I hear from him, in the mean time you can email me the information or fax it to Debbi at 1-413-568-8386
thank you

Immediately I provided the requested documents.

Hi ###X,
I received your information and will be in contact with you once I hear from the gunsmith
thank you

27 MAR 2014: I have sent another message to SAVAGE because I did not received my money yet.

TODAY, I received this email:

Hi ###X,
I have recently requested the warranty station to send me notice that your firearm was destroyed and I will be processing the check thru our accounting department shortly
thank you

All this for your info.

Well, that sucks.

I'm in a similar boat with Savage right now, horrid to non-existent customer service. Rifle cracked 2 weeks after purchase (mid hunting season). I called, Grech's, Savage's warranty centre, to see if I can just get the cracked part sent out to me rather than miss hunting season. The lady on the phone was extremely rude and un-coperative, it was apparent that wasn't an option. Had to return the rifle to the retailer (who are trying to be a little more helpful than Savage), who then have to send it off Gretches warranty on my behalf.

That was early december, no word from Grech's (they have my number). The retailer is trying to help me out by calling and figuring out whats going on. Savage/ Grech's just keeps making the same excuses ("Savage got bought, so we are having trouble getting parts"). I can understand a few days or weeks of sorting out new paperwork but its obvious they are flat out lying at this point.

I would much rather just get my money back for the rifle at this point, and never buy another Savage again. 3 out of 3 rifles of theirs I've had to return for defects.

But if your actually able to get a refund, I would like to know as I'd much prefer that option at this point!

They are supposed to destroy it.
After three months without any news update of my rifle,
and without being able to communicate with the warranty station "DEPOT"
I asked for a refund; and they agree.
I bought this rifle brand new to fulfill my need, not to send it for the fun of it to Savage warranty station.
I figured it will be way shorter to bet a refund, then go back in store and buy something else.
Is there an Acetylene shortage in Quebec?

I wouldn't be blaming Savage myself, I'd be blaming the useless warranty center. Unfortunately manufacturers are stuck with a lot of ####ty reps in Canada, it's not their fault really, no one up here seems to want to do a good job. There are a few places, Stoegers being one, that provide good service, but even they sometimes drop the ball.

Good luck to you. I waited over a year to get an exchange for my rifle. I didnt even get to shoot it. The action was warped and my smith couldn't even bore site it it was so off.

Stoeger? My experience has been the exact opposite. I've been waiting to hear from them on a Benelli part since February of last year. They NEVER contact me, I either need to phone or email constantly. Emails never get answered. Terrible service."Let me check on that and get back to you......backordered......didn't arrive in last shipment, not sure why, I'll get back to you.......should be here in 6 weeks........shows it was ordered, but not here...."

I've had a similar experience with a Savage. I fired off 3 emails to warranty centers, the one in Quebec, one in MB and one in ON, IIRC. Not one reply.

Why would they destroy the gun before sending a cheque????? That makes no sense at all. Why destroy it rather than keep parts

I have a question. Why wouldn't you return the rifle to the place your purchased it from and let them deal with this hassle? A good gun shop would take care of you and deal with this hassle. They wouldn't have any down time and would have more pull I'm sure than the end user.

Oh boy, it sounds like I'm going to be heading down into this dark Savage dungeon myself. I bought an Axis in .223 last fall. Put a cheap used scope from the EE on it and could not get it to zero & shoot consistent worth a damn. Figuring I bought a busted scope, I have just replaced the scope with a brand new Burris Fullfield II and am still having problems. I then tried better ammo in a higher grain bullet (originally used cheap Winchester 45g JHP but bought some Hornady 55g V-Max) and I'm still shaking my head. I want to try one more time later this week before contacting the retailer or, god forbid, have to try the warranty centre. Unless the barrel is mis-manufactured, I don't see what else it could be, everything seems tight. The magazine is crap though, something is amiss with it as it rattles around in the rifle now. I'm quite disappointed with Savage right now. Interesting to see/hear if there is a lot of similar issues with recent Savage manufacturing. Sounds similar to what Marlin went through when bought (intentional sabotage by disgruntled soon-to-be discarded employees?).

Unfortunately a sign of the times. You can only manufacture a rifle so cheap and irregardless of "precision CNC machining" etc. quality goes down the toilet. The present demand for really inexpensive firearms has resulted in a whole pile of junk being sold to the consumer in my opinion. All of the major manufacturers have gone down this road of late and the results are not pretty. Personally I buy older used firearms for my own use. They can be found in excellent shape, at bargain prices and quality is very good.

OT for the original post but in reply...
lightening the trigger on my first Axis shrunk the groups by a full inch.
make sure the front of the barrel channel isn't touching the barrel.
I had to do some sanding on my second Axis to get consistent groups.
Both were grouping under 1" with handloads when I sold them.

I'd suggest caution in not doing any modifications that could possibly void the warranty on the rifle.

Or possibly make it unsafe.
