Hey Guys and Gals,

Im looking at purchasing as my first rifle in the .308 and like a lot of other people, money matters. I was just wondering how difficult/expensive it would be to add a muzzle brake to a savage edge/axis?

I was previously looking at the remington 770 but everyone I talk to says spend an extra 100 bucks or so and go with the savage as its more reliable and its much easier to add extras to it.

Appreciate the help as I'm still learning!! Thanks.

Unless you are very recoil sensitive I would suggest not putting a brake on the .308. I was just shooting my Edge in .308 and the recoil was very mild. I bit of shoulder padding and you hardly notice.

The Edge has a very hard pull on the trigger so if you want to put $100 on the rifle I would suggest a trigger upgrade like a Rifle Basix. I like the fit and handling of the Edge so I'll be keeping mine and upgrading the trigger. They're not a bad buy in terms of gun but I think the Stevens are more accurate.

Good on ya for wanting a .308. After extensively researching the options, I recently got mine in a Marlin XS7 model which was in the price range you are looking for, with better options than others in that range. It has a great recoil pad already on it and has a trigger system thats very similar to the savage accu-trigger and works great. The only negative about the Marlin is the internal magazine instead of a removeable version. I added a Nikon Prostaff scope and got a sweet starter hunting outfit Right outta the box I'm getting honest 1-1.5" groups at 100 yds with cheap ammo. Hope this helps
