Heres the deal i bought a new savage edge .308 with the potential to make it a target gun (Not fully understanding what a target gun was and well now i own the edge).... Would it just be cheaper to go get a target gun example a Remington 700 SPS tactical or get a barrel and stuff done for the edge.... I'am a newbie so any advice would be great thx

Ugly, but floating bolt head and barrel nut...its a Savage..heard horrible things about the trigger too. You might as well get Juanvaldez to get you a barrel...save a bit of money...and a timney trigger. Though that is just because I have a weird thing for Savages...Mystic might be able to help out more.

Hey Whenwood

Why not shoot it for awhile and see how it does? If you're going to upgrade, I'd recommend putting on a timney trigger (around $100-$150), an aftermarket barrel (around $200-500) and a new stock (around $100-$500).

However, if you shoot it and find it can shoot around 1" at 100m, that's more then enough to get you started. You can shoot it now, save your pennies and when you're ready to buy something else you'll have more of an idea of what you want.

Although I have not played with the action myself, Timney trigger and Savage prefit barrel should fit.

Stocks will be a bit tough as the instock recoil lug will not be easily duplicated by the aftermarket. Modifying the orig or somehow getting the factory lug out of the factory stock to reuse would be other options.

Shoot it and have some fun. Upgrade are simple enough to do and don't cost a fortune.

Let me know...

the bolt is not the same as a standard savage bolt head. one side is larger than the other. bolt is very still when opening. has the standard savage barrel nut, whether the threads are the same is another story.

other than that i haven't heard how well they shoot.
