Savage Edge reviews?

And what is wrong for aiming for the head?? All of the deer I take except large bucks that look like they maybe mounted are head shots.
No wasted meat and it is rare I miss. Been doing that since I was 12 and taken more deer than I can count on my hands and feet.
If you cannot group your shots with a rife and scope at 125 yards to hit a head you best spend a lot more time shooting at the range until you do.
I by no means am an expert shot but can hit the head at that range. Dam I shoot with guys that will hit that eye every shot.

I don't know how you and your friends manage to get deer to hold their heads perfectly still while you shoot them but around here, a deer's head is almost constantly moving.

The head is a terrible target. Almost always moving and the brain is a tiny target.

A heart lung shot almost always results in meat on the table and usually wastes little to no meat. Even being slightly off on a head shot could result in blowing the jaw off thus resulting a deer starving to death in a great deal of pain. You state you rarely miss, which means you do on occasion miss. Did you miss cleanly or did you condem a deer to a slow and painful death.

Hunting is more than killing, ethics are involved.

Gentlemen,

You are wandering from the OP's topic. He was not asking about the ethics of head over body shots. He was simply asking about the Savage Edge rifle.

Please contain your comments to the question at hand, keep a civil tongue in your mouths and be respectful of each other.

This thread appears to be in the process of being hijacked.

I would recommend the Edge (soon to be re-released as the Savage Axis), but the Marlin X7 series are absolutely a much better gun, with limited caliber offerings albeit, for not much more money. You can't go wrong with any of the guns mentioned in this thread so far. Yes, I have actual experience with the Marlin XS7.

You are 100% right Matt. Just didnot like someone being called an idiot because they made a good shot. I removed my posts and did give my feedback on the original subject when it was first posted.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the cheap ass plastic mag release. The one I picked up at a store had the tab already cracked. I have a savage 111 in 300wm and a stevens in 25-06. Both shoot sub moa with factory ammo. I love both guns and would buy them again. But ima pass on the edge/axis

I've pulled mine out plenty of times, hasn't broken yet. Someone probably got to rough with it, and was looking for it to break.

I have one in 223rem and it shoots pretty well. Here's 8 shot's one right after the other off my Backpack at 100 yards with Winchester 45gr hollow points. Fist shot was the highest one with clean barrel and the last two shot are on the right when the barrel was starting to heat up pretty good.

I also tried some 62gr soft points and it shoot's them about the same.

I bought an Edge last month chambered in .22-.250 with a Bushnell Sharpshooter 3-9x40 scope mounted on it at Canadian Tire for $406.00. Today I finally got a chance to shoot it for the first time and sight it in. Personally, I like the look and feel of the stock, mind you I wish the forestock was a little stiffer. I find the bolt cycles pretty nicely and becomes smoother with more use. The 6lb trigger pull is heavier than I would like, especially after shooting my Model 111 with Accutrigger.

I set up 2 targets at the range, one on the 50 yard line and the second on the 100 yard. Out of the box, the scope was sighted pretty good. Using factory ammo, Winchester Super X 55gr Pointed Soft Point, the first 4 shot group was 1 up, 4-5 left. Making adjustments along the way, my 12 and 13th shot were in the center ring. Shots 14 & 15 are in the upper left, 16 & 17 are upper right.

Before starting on the 100 yard target, I cleaned the bore. My first 2 shots were 1 down, 1 left, the third was in the center ring. I made adjustments and more next groupings were starting in the top left corner going clockwise. In my final 5 shot group, the bottom left, I have 1 round unaccounted for  I don't know where it went... the lower right hole was not part of the final 5.

The weather today was -2, ~80% humidity and light fluries. Near the end of my session, I was having issues with my breath fogging up the scope and making visibility a little difficult down range.

Overall, I am more than pleased with how this rifle performed, and so far I think I got more than what I paid for. The only 2 things I would like to change is the stock and the trigger. Perhaps Savage will make an Accutrigger and Accustock kit for this gun in the future......
