Savage Edge reviews?

I thought the Axis was a completely different rifle from the Edge, but from comments here, it seems to be mainly a new name with minor changes. Anyone know for sure? I helped a young man sight in a scope on his Edge at the range yesterday. It was shooting one hole groups with the cheaper Winchester factory ammo. My 110 and 111 Savages are both excellent rifles but my Stevens was a disappointment. I'm tempted to try an Edge in .308 Win.

Edge and Axis are the same thing. Copyrights were the reason for the name change.

Did this today with my sons new EDGE in 223.
Wind was 20kph, -1 with a wind chill of -7.
Just using cheap Winchester 45gr SP.
Used front and rear bag. Did 4 5 shot strngs, at 100 yards, this was the last one.
Every group got better and better. Squares on targer are 1" x 1"
Fingers were frozen by the time I got to the 200 yard targets.
Was sighting in my new Tikka too.

My quick review.
Edge was $320 with the scope. Took about an hour to polished all the trigger parts, cut down the spring, trigger is now Okay. Mag is a pain in the butt to load. Gun is light and handles well. So far I think its dam good bang for the buck.

My 223 mag is easy to load. Just push each round straight down, don't try sliding them in from the front. All else fails read the instructions. lol.

The change of name to axis was due copyright and they are or have been sued over it. I know a few people who own them and find them more than worth the cash. Anyone know where in the maritimes I can buy a 22-250 with scope in my hand for less than $450? I know thats not a bad price with tax and shipping incl. but if I can get one cheaper, I will. I've looked at a lot of entry level rifles in 22-250, spoke to a lot of people and dealers, and read every review I could find and I think the savage axis/edge is the one to buy for the price range. I am also planning on using it mainly for coyotes and feel the 22-250 offers better accuracy and hitting power when shooting over 300 yards. I know some of you will disagree, and I'm not trying to start a debate (not that I would mind) but look at the numbers, talk to experienced people who have done it and try it yourself, and you will agree. IMO

Either your brother is an idiot or he is a terrible shot. If you're aiming for the head then your an idiot. If you missed the lungs and hit the eye either your a terrible shot or the gun is the most innacurate in the world

That might be true in your case and within the limits of your shooting abilities ....now I don't know this guy at all but if he is confident in his ability to pick which part of the eye he wants to hit and can cosistently do it then I would have to say go ahead and do it. OH and as far as calling his guy an idiot, all I have to say about that is "it takes one to know one"
Have a nice day!!!

I don't know how you and your friends manage to get deer to hold their heads perfectly still while you shoot them but around here, a deer's head is almost constantly moving.

The head is a terrible target. Almost always moving and the brain is a tiny target.

A heart lung shot almost always results in meat on the table and usually wastes little to no meat. Even being slightly off on a head shot could result in blowing the jaw off thus resulting a deer starving to death in a great deal of pain. You state you rarely miss, which means you do on occasion miss. Did you miss cleanly or did you condem a deer to a slow and painful death.

Hunting is more than killing, ethics are involved.

So what you're saying is that a poorly placed shot when aiming for the lungs like hitting the deer in the gut and having it die slowly in about a week is better than shooting off the jaw and having it die in about a week.
OH a little tip for ya...if the deer is moving it's head around or even walking try letting out a loud whistle 95 times out a hundred it wil stop dead in its tracks and stare in the direction of the sound....bang!!!
Have a nice day.

I have a question? Where are people getting these rifles for $300-350 shipped? Can i get in on this deal

I second that. I assume you mean without the scope combo? The cheapest I found for the combo is $450 taxes in shipped to me. (well at my local dealer)

two out of three comments worth squat, why dont you take it into PMs? or start a thread about where to aim on an animal?

I saw the posts about Dante but they don't offer the edge XP which is the combo (not that I saw anyway). It is a edge/axis and bushnell scope mounted and bore sighted.
On the topic of headshots. I've taken hundreds of headshots on many different types of anmials within 100 yards and I see no problem with that. I have put lots of lead through the pipe in the last 25 years and am very sure of my abilities. I don't take head shots over 100 yards because even if you can shoot 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards, why risk loosing your large game when a shot at the vitals can handle a 6-8 inch grouping and still drop the game. At a rabbit, fox, coyote, etc..sometimes its fun to prove to yourself how good you are, but big game, why risk having to track it for days.
More important, where can I buy the axis combo for less than $450 taxes in shipped to me?????????

I have the Edge in .223 and I like it except that the front scope mount is too far forward to allow me to properly place my Elite 5-15 tactical. Any one know if there is a one piece base that could help me fix this problem?
