Hey guys , I've been seriously concidering a 22-250 savage edge XP bolt action vista camo. Does anyone have anything to say on this rifles behalf? What can go wrong for the price? Even a 3-9-40 scope. The only thing is ... they are on back order at cabelas.ca.

A friend has the Edge in .30-06 and it shoots 1" at 100yds. I think it feels cheap, but accuracy speaks.

I went to a local store to had a look at them, and they had the FCX model on sale at $350, so I came home with it. I like it a lot better than the Edge.

X2 The edge seems to be a good rifle but i would spend extra on an 11 just cause they feel a lot better and they are proven. its under 100 dollars more. For sure go handle them both before jumping in.

My gunsmith warned me off of the Edge as he has been getting them in on a very regular basis (1-2 a week). Bolt problems, trigger problems and magazine locking tab breakages. He does praise the Stevens 200 and the regular Savage line though.

Further to the above, Savage has apparently redesigned/replaced the Edge.

I had a look at one a few weeks ago.....wasnt impressed at all. The gun is just but ugly. Too ugly to even hunt with, where no one will see you.

It may be accurate, but it looks cheap, feels cheap, and is plain hideous to look at.

I was warned off of them as well by someone who's opinion I trust. He said they might shoot well, but check back in a year or two and wait and see what kind of problems they'll be having.

so can anyone suggest a fairly cheap varmint rifle? I'm doing my last year in college so i don't have abundant ammounts of money right now. But I don't want to sit on the couch all day or watch coyote hunting videos on youtube. All I have at home is a swedish 6.5x55 a 22LR and a 30.06. That's the only rifles I own. The biggest rifle I can carry with a varmint license is a 22-250. I kind of had a feeling this rifle was too good to be true! You pay for what you get!

thanks

You can get a stevens 200 in 223 or 22-250 for $335. Heavy trigger and stiffish bolt lift but light to carry, accurate, reliable and cheap.

PERFECT! Does anyone know if the stevens 200 is scope ready? DO most rifles come drilled and tapped for scopes? too bad it isn't camo. I've always wanted a camo one but i've seen some guys paint them and they look real good.

Hey nobody loves Savage more than I do. Never held nor shot an edge but I got to say they are but ugly

one of my friends bought one so I got to handle it a bit.

Here is what I think of it.

-bolt is loose but stiff at the same time. (if you know what i mean)
-trigger is a little on the heavy side.
-the camo colour is drop dead ugly , it's like a snott green. It doesnt look like the pictures at all
-extremly cheap feeling over all

I haven't shot it yet but the first impression wasen't a very good one. Looks like I will be getting a stevens 200. Just posted an add in the EE forum. If you know of where i can get one , let me know guys!

thanks!

I'd buy one new off one of the dealers on this forum. Eg. smacdonald has them listed at $360. Or google Kenora Canadian Tire they have them for $335.

Not worth buying on the EE in IMHO. Guys generally seem to list them for more or same as you can get them new.

There are (OR WERE) several Stevens 200 rifles on the New Brunswick Hunting website for sale for reasonable prices.

I bought a Savage Model 10 on there this summer with a Simmons scope (yuck) for $225. :D
