Savage F Class or F/TR

seems like i may be one of the lucky ones...picked up a 12FVSS in .308 from wholesale sports back in august :p

really though guys...amazing rifle, im verrrry happy with it...and well worth waiting for

Just build your own. that single shot action is not the end all for accuracy.

Start with a Stevens, sell off what you don't need, add in a Rifle basix 2 trigger, spin on a Gaillard (or Smith, or McPhee or Pac Nor, or Shilen, or...), pick up a robertson or microfit BR or Bell and Carlson. To save even more bucks, you can modify the orig tuperwear stock.

You will have a better shooter for about the same/less dollars.

Then you don't to wait till?????? for it.

Just go pick up a 12FV and swap/modify the stock. Voila....

Not the stash, man.

The above!

Only other thing to do is find one in the U.S. and get Questar to bring it in.

I don't understand this whole "export permit lapse" BS. The import permits are issued between the importer (read: company actually importing said goods) and exporter (read: company doing exporting - Savage). These permits can't possibly lapse with ALL importers at exactly the same time.

It's not Savage's fault that the permit expires it's the importer. If the company wants to continue importing said products it's up to them to fill out their paperwork and have it approved by DFAIT and sent to the exporting company for processing with US State Dept. so that no lapse in permits will occur.

I don't think it's a stretch by implying some of the problem finding these rifles up here has to do with the intended use of the rifle in the first place. It's basically a niche market rifle and no one store will sell a large number of these relatively specialized rifles (and probably difficult to obtain from Savage) and they're reluctant to bring many in.

when I ordered my 12fvss in 270wsm this fall, my gun guy said that his distributor was waiting on a shipment from the states and that it could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. it only took two weeks so that was nice.
I agree with 2bad its a specialized unit that I am sure alot of gun shops wouldnt want to order in and have it just sitting on the rack..

I was going to order one in 6.5-284, but in the end I settled on the fvss because it was just more practical and I could do more with it because I am not much of a competition shooter... and the brass is cheaper and easier to come by. I am happy I went with the fvss, and I have a B&C stock on the way for it

I would rather buy a clapped out CIL (single shot Savage target rifle) and re-barrel it with a quality barrel in the caliber of my choice.

In fact, I have done that 7 times. Love them.

Current fav is a 260 Improved. Shoots the 142 at about 2900 fps.

Mark from Powder Keg in Kamloops had a customers Savage F/TR out to test it yesterday. For a stock rifle it shot not too bad but not even close to a custom build.

Was the rifle bedded? Load worked up?

How good/bad did it shoot?

Jerry

Actually, I just took a look at the scores from Sunday. It shot better than I thought.

100-4X if I got the right relay.

Not sure if it was a worked up load or not and I do not know if it was bedded or not. IIRC the reason Mark was testing it was because it was JUST bedded but again......I am not 100% sure on that. I was down pulling targets in the butts when he had it out.

That's promising then. Must have been shooting MK's :)

I see no reason why it wouldn't shoot 1/2 min or the Xring with some load tuning.

I just can't see Mark spending alot of time tuning up a load for a customers rifle. He probably picked some accuracy load and shot it.

But then, I would like the know the skinny....

I believe he shot whatever load he shoots in his .308. If I remember next Sunday I will ask him.
