So I had my Savage F/tr .308 at the range today. I now have 150 rounds through it, I have had some excellent results. I was using a harris 9-13 swivel bipod, with a rockmount rear bag, the scope is a Millett LRS-1 6-25x.
Here is the gun:

And here are the last 2 groups from today. Both 5 shot groups, using 168Gr Berger BT match (not VLD) and 45.5 gr varget, OAL 2.800.
The first group is at 100yards, the second is at 160 yards.

According to my math, the first group= .296, the second at 160 yards = .435

The longest I have got to shoot is 400 yard(I think its actuall 427 yards) at the eganville club, I have shot numerous ub 3 inch 400 yard 5 shot groups, and a couple sub 2 inch 400 yard groups.
Overall, I am very happy with this gun, for out of box accuracy, I a quite impressed.

The Eganville club is 400 m. Kinda weird for us yardage boys.:p

0.435" div 1.60 = =.272 mins.

Factory rifle with handloads shooting in the 2's is pretty darn good. Hopefully, you can keep it at this level of accuracy as an average.

Looks like the group has some vertical which can be load, bipod or bedding.

I would recommend bedding that action and tweaking the load a bit more. The group size may not change on average but consistency may improve dramatically. You should also be able to dial out the vertical unless the bipod is the main problem.

If the barrel will keep this level of accuracy through 18 to 20rds of fire in a moderate amount of time, you have a very competitive F TR rig.

Good luck with your tuning.

400m is 440yds - close enough.

Enjoy...

My F/TR just arrived. The cheek rest . Did you mount the high one and how stable is it. I noticed it has only one screw to hold it in place.

Thanks for any in put.

I installed the higher cheekrest, it is quite stable, I had to use the high one due to height of my rings. I imagine if you took it off and put it back on more than a couple of times, it might get loose, as it is only a wood screw holding it on. But mine is set up just right for me, I have no need to ever remove it.
