Savage F/TR

X 2 for that load also the 107s sierras with 30.0 gr of varget just kissing the lands into the .2s at 100 yards.

I think it will be very competative.

Bob I like the 105 Amax as well my self.

BoB, what load have you found with your new 6.5x284.

I did some serious chrony work this weekend with mine but the darn thing will only go .5s at 100 yards for 5 shots. But it will do it ever time.

No Jason my 6.5 is going back to the factory. It is a 500 yard gun as the groups go vertical when trying to hit 2850 fps needed to get to a 1000 yards.

I was aware there were issues with this barrel when I got it, Savage is standing behind replacement.

No big deal the 6 BR does well, will see what it does this weekend end at 1000.

3 shots in the same hole with the F/TR at the range today (100 yards).

One gripe I have with this rifle is that you have to unscrew and remove the cheek piece every time you want to run a rod down the bore. They should have made a quick release. I'm not putting the cheek piece back on. There has to be a better one out there!

I think im gonna do this:

The way my F-class 6.5 and 6mm are shooting almost thinking about trading my Tic tack for the 308 F T/R but how could I do that to my Tikka lol!!!!

It shoots so dam good as well lol!!!

However i like the 30 inch tube! The wheels are spinning,

Has anyone seen teh new palma 308 with a 1:13 twist!

Bob, I can not believe you got 2 duds in a row, have you shot this one?

No, you can possibly buy a "knock-off" from say......China (surprise!!) but I believe the one above is only available through Karsten. They are supposed to be really well made and he has a few different versions available. Nice option for anybody wanting an adjustable cheekpiece.

That is some serious throat errosion!!!! in a short time.

Hell we shoot 100 rounds each time out!! thats only 5 shoots with the barrel after break in and development.

I have 200 down mine now and its just starting to work well for me, holding .5 moa.

I am quite interested in what the "average" barrel life of the New Savages will be like. Buttoned barrels in 6.5X284's are typically known for having a sub-1000 round competitive life.

I really like these rifles, having gotten to play with and shoot one, however it is also apparent from the many posts on different forums that there are definitely issues with some rifles having significant accuracy issues. My friend Tom had one that Savage replaced because it was a 1MOA gun. It also had a VERY long throat. The new replacement "out of the box" rifle had a significantly shorter throat and shoots like a house on fire.

I've supplied barrels to a couple of people that have re-barreled these rifles and one shot his factory pipe to 1300 rounds, the other guy figured he got about 800 before it opened up completely. Both said they were chasing throats about every 100 rounds....

The bottom line is that caliber is not known for barrel longevity; it ain't the gun's fault, but it would be interesting see see how barrel life compares since prior to this, there wasn't a factory gun in 6.5X284... hard to make an apples to apples comparison.
