I had an interesting experience with my brand new savage 93R17BVTS this week. i bought the gun new and when i went home the first thing i did was take the stock off and adjust the spring to its lowest setting (this is my second 93R17BVTS i have owned). i put the stock back on and tightened the screws back up on the stock. at the range i loaded it up and pulled the trigger and "click". i spent the next three days pulling the gun apart and degreasing the bolt and cleaning everything out. still nothing. i was cycling the bolt with the stock off and i noticed that the bolt moved much easier in the receiver then it did with the stock on. then it dawned on me, i was tightening the screws so tight that it was creating tension on the reciever causing the bolt to jam! so i loosened up the rear screw and bingo, no failure to fire... the bolt cycles much smoother and the dimples in the rims of the cartridges are much deeper. anyways, hopes this little nugget of info can help someone with similar issues...

cheers.

Find out exactly where the receiver is hanging up on the stock, and relieve the wood/plastic so it's not bending the receiver when both screws are tight.

Or, you could shim it under the other screw so that it isn't pulled down as far.

Is there a torque spec for those screws? Some precision rifles have a spec for the action screws, your Savage may be the same. Doing it the same every time enhances your consistency and accuracy as well ensuring things work as intended.
