Well I did it, ordered a 16FSS in 300WSM, Standard Trigger.
I haven't become accustom to the accutrigger after many handling's of the rifles in the stores. I'm sure that I can work the trigger down if it needs it.

I'm looking for your ideas on the tupperware stock.

reinforcing it, bedding it, tricks of the trade and what have you.

I am also open to suggestions on after market stocks as well.

and if you want to throw some load info my way, by all means please do.

1). I never thought I'd own another Savage center fire. I over looked
everyones nay saying.
2). I never thought I'd buy a WSM

I guess I'm open to change.....

Let's see what happens.

I'm with you on the accutrigger, I like my savages but don't care for the accutriggers. You can easily adjust the old style triggers down to about 2-3Lbs or so which is good enought for hunting. Less then that I guess it would take a little more work and something other then a just a screwdriver. :)

Not sure where you'll find a decent price on a savage short action stock. I just ordered on of the Bell and Carlson Duramaxx stocks from Stocky's. They have them on sale for $89 which means they can ship it to Canada hassle free. Another thing I might try with the factory stock though is to fill the front end with some body fill to stiffen it up a bit. Will add a bit of weight but should keep it from flexing until it touches the barrel.

Another little tip if you have trouble feeding the WSM cartridge is to get some snap caps and feed them through a few dozen times. I found they are a bit rough and smoothed out the edge of the chamber. My 270 was taking little thin strips of brass off the side of the cases until I got it smoothed out.

The accutrigger is easily adjusted for lighter weight. With a bit of use, it smooths out and there is no creep and overtravel can be eliminated easily too. It is a super trigger.

Bed the action. Open the channel up ALOT. You can epoxy arrow shafts into the forend after cutting slots. That is the lightest. Ensure that the shafts go into the area under the action screw hole so it connects the full length of the forend.

I used mine without any stiffening and although it was flexy, never caused me any issues in the field.

The lips on the mag tend to be rough. I use 600 grit sandpaper and polish the 'inside'. That eases feeding alot.

Enjoy your rifle.

CeeZer go to Western Gun Parts. Easy to deal with and fairly fast. They also sell used stuff. Also looked at a Savage 12fv and it is a nice rifle especially for the price. Not sure why they put an internal box mag in a varmint rifle but I can get it in a leftie bolt and am thinkin hard. Not a bad lookin rifle. Seems to me most of the Savage slagging has to do with rimfires that are made in Canada-centrefires are made in the US and are a different thing altogether. Check it out-they are known for accuracy.

Got me one of them too. 99c 308 from the Kamloops gun show last April. Hey doggie thems fine rifles. Going back to the show in April and mebbe add to the herd. Ya just never know. Go check out the 99 forum at Hunting Rifles and lookit Maddogs collection.
