Looking to buy a friends weather warrior in 30-06.

Never hunted before but my guess is this caliber is good for deer, moose and black bear? It's mostly what is available in Quebec.

Rifle is like new no scope ore scope rings has shot supposedly 5 boxes.

Would 575 be a reasonable deal? All I know is they retail on the savage web site for 860 usd. Anyone know what they go for in Canada?

Thanks

Sounds about right. Word of warning, I owned one, and although I liked it, and it shot well, I had trouble with scope mounting. The space between the front scope bases and the rear scope bases are VERY FAR APART. (More than any other rifle I have ever seen)
This makes finding a scope that will actually have enough TUBE to meet both rings when they are mounted is a CHORE. I tried 3 scopes that I had and none fit. I ended up using an extension ring, PLUS having to dremel out part of the front base to get enough room to fit my Bushnell 3200 3-9x40. I had NO room for changing the distance from the scope eyepiece to my eye(eye relief) and it made me more uncomfortable shooting than was necessary. IF you buy the gun, make sure you know what type of scope you are gonna mount, get the parts necessary and see. I cost me over 2 months and a fair bit of money to find out that tidbit. (P.S. None of the scopes I tried were small, one was a Burris Fullfield II 3-9, a bushnell 3200 3-9, and a simmons Aetec 2.8-10x , and all were too short in the tube. (Don't bother looking at the bell housings of the scope, just the tube. Make sure it is long enough.

WSS lists the 16FCSS for $749.95, if that helps. I would expect that Smacdonald on here could get one for a bit less than that. Based on that, $575 isn't a bad deal if it is in truly mint shape.

30-06 is all you need for anything up to grizzly in NA, so you would be good to go. Find a 180gr load that it likes and you are fine for almost anything. If you like the solid metal bullets, the 168gr TTSX is extremely well regarded.

Does your reviver look anything like this?

Do you need 2 screws to hold the rings or just 1?

Could you not just use a picatinny rail (I believe that Evolution Gun Works makes one) to remedy this situation?

I used Leupold STD mounts on my savage 114 30-06. Works fine, but does look silly.

If you look at the walnut stocked rifle, and look closely at the rear scope mount you can see that it hangs out over the action.
Apologies for the crap quality, I had to crop in drastically.

I noticed this as well. My Weather Warrior is a short action and although I am not too sure how much of a difference the long action would be, I had to turn the rear base opposite of the front one to shorten the distance between the rings. For what it's worth, I used Weaver bases and Grand Slam rings to mount Bushnell XLT Trophy glass.

I could have used a picatinny rail IF I KNEW OF ONE or knew of anywhere to get one. That was in 2006. I lived(live) in Yellowknife, and the "Book" of cross references for bases and rings that they had at the gun store made no mention of any rails made for the 116ww because it was too new, and a cursory search of the internet led no where also. I just wonder if anyone at Savage actually used one of these rifles before marketing them. Someone should have noticed that you'd need a benchrest length scope tube to fit anything but 2 extension rings. I ended up taking the gun to the shop, and trying every scope to measure the tube against the rings, and it left me at best 2mm or eye relief positioning front or back with any size scope that I'd actually be able to use in the field. I don't consider a 6.5-20x50 to be a reasonable scope to have to buy. Maybe there are aftermarket solutions nowadays, but at the time, I had to become a goddanged Macguyver to solve the problem. And this was only 4 days before a "paid for" hunt.

I also had a problem just getting bases for mine. The salesperson sent me home with 2 different bases, a 46 and a 61. They work for older versions without AccuTrigger and a quick glance at the Mount/Base charts and it looks like they are right, but below they list 46 for front and rear for the Accutrigger. I was choked. My first rifle, bought it on a saturday in Wpg (nearly 2 hour drive) only to find out I couldn't mount my scope. Luckily MacDonald's Hunting Store in Portage La Prairie is open sundays and I was able to get everything straightened up
