Savage goes kaboom

Thanks Hooter, the pics and the explanation had me:bangHead:. It just didn't add up. On a side note, I'd love to be around (more than a few stalls away:)) when someone launches a ram rod! Laugh2 Howitzer without a doubt! Sorry 'bout his eye, but come on...that's some Monty Python at it's finest right there!? Especially if by some stroke of luck it punched paper 100m downrange;)

Plinker......the ramrod "incident" was definately comedy at it's finest. First morning of controlled BP season and as I walk in to my stand quietly and 3 others are coming in I happen to slowely move 3 or 4 or 5 deer out the otherside of the bush right into the sights of the other 3 whom had yet to drop a hunter and were still close to each other.......the result was 3 muzzies being fired and reloaded quicker than a scared soldier in 1812, and myself ducking behind a 4ft oak tree wondering what the crap was going on over there......and finally hearing the "howitzer" report from 100 yds away. Upon things quieting down and mustering enough curiousity to venture over and see whats up, I find 3 tags filled and and a bloody scope. Needless to say, this fella has always been the center of any misadventure and mayhem we encounter during our week, so we all had a good laugh.....again at his expense, once we realized nobody was hurt. I did check that barrel for any bulging afterwords and it seemed quite good and has fired many rounds since. 43.0 gns SR4759 and 1800-1900 gns of projectile.......never to be seen again. I believe the next year I did discover that a broadhead fit his NEW ramrod and made sure it was installed before he fetched his gun that morning. Another laugh at his expense.
As for your quote" There are 3 types of people in this world; Those that make things happen, Those that allow things to happen and those that wonder "what happened!?" This guy is definately the 3rd type.

That wasnt caused by 42.5gns of IMR4759. The standard load of SR4759 is 43 gns(by weight) for THAT rifle, the savage ML10, behind either 250gn OR 300 gn bullet with sabot. Ive even seen one of these launch a ramrod without blowing up (sounded like a howitzer, and left a dandy scope mark around the guys eye, and no it wasn't me). The volume is similar to 80-100 gns Blackpowder by volume. Something else is up. Do a search (not here)......there are a couple anti ML10 guys out there that like to send this bunk around. These pics have been floating around for a good while.

Ha ha ha! A friend of mine (who is on this site) just did that this fall in his excitement of sighting in his new scope! IIRC, he said the rod broke in half and went sideways through the target at 100yds. He too got a nasty scope bite and had to order a new ramrod!
