In .22lr rim fire, I was wondering if anyone has knowledge how these two rifles compare against each other? Savage MarkII FV vs Remington's 597. I'd like to know if savage has the advantage with the accu trig?

I'm down to purchasing one of these rifles. I'm just trying to maximize my dollar and get the best bang for my buck in a under $300. Cdn priced plinker rifle.

If anyone has had a chance to fire both of these rifles and see how they group I'd be interested in knowing your results.

Thanks,

Jake

if the savage 22 is the same as my old savage .243 i'ed say buy the savage plus the accutrigger is a bonus in my eyes. my 2 dallars

Between those 2, get the Savage. The 597 doesn't have a very good track record.

However, if you're looking for the best bang for your buck plinker, have you looked at the Savage Model 60? Or a Model 7000(if you can still find one). The 60 has a tube mag and a more conventional apprearance, and the 7000 has a removable mag, and a heavy barrel. The 60 is well under $200, the 7000 just over $200. Both are extremely accurate and reliable.

Got a savage with the accutrigger. I'll admit that other brands have some better fit and finish but they can't hold a candle to the savage guns. Mine is ultra accurate and the trigger is great. I've got a very accurate Marlin bolt in 17 HMR but the trigger is crap and I will be replacing it so the marlin does not make a better value. As for the Rem just stick to their centerfire bolt actions the 597 doesn't cut it.

you are weighing apple vs orange in my opinion. Remington 597 is semi-auto and I put those separately. Actually remington 597 is next on my hit list, probably in 22lr magnum. Savage MkII in HB is great rifle I really love it. Well, I never had descent brand new rifle so maybe I am a bit off in my evaluation. Shoots OK, I think there is some room to improve, its just under 3/4" at 50 yards shooting off sand bags and about 1.5" at 100. I still have to find its best ammo brand but so far seems being omnivore rifle.
