Savage Help (muzzle brake)

I picked up a Savage hunter with a factory muzzle brake on the barrel. Anyone know if these are removable?, or shall I just chop the barrel. I've tried unthreading it, but it's either on really tight or brazed. I have zero interest in having a MB on it, even if it is switchable.

Maybe a silly question, but why did you buy it if it has a brake you don't want? It's not a hard to find rifle.

Looking at the picture, I'd say it's the type where a shroud can be turned to cover the gas ports to make it ineffective, but probably can't be removed.

Not a silly question. A deep gloss blued, nice wood stocked Savage is tough to find these days in a sea of Tupperware and Axis's

Yeah it's a "click on, click off" MB. Just be much nicer if it wasn't there.

Shouldn't be more than $75 for a decent gunsmith to cut and crown, especially since Savage barrels are easy to remove.
